Even though there were Midas location closer to where I live now, I returned to this Midas location at 2737 Pembina Highway because they installed my brakes a few years ago and was happy with the work, and also had the “lifetime warranty” on the brakes, which needed replaced, in addition to a caliper. Service at this location has gone downhill since my last visit, and the “lifetime warranty” on the breaks is just to bait you to come into the store, where they will make their profit back and overcharge you in other areas. Initially, the service representative I spoke with was pleasant, but after they looked at my car, he was short on the phone when I asked a few questions on pricing and recommended work vs. required work. When I asked for a breakdown of the cost of parts vs labour he told me that the one caliper cost $180 for the part and he said that was a good deal (I know they sell for $60 from various parts stores in the city). When I told him another mechanic in the city quoted me $140 for the exact same part, his response was that he could put everything back together and that I could take my business elsewhere.

The inflated price of the caliper, in addition to the inflated cost to install the caliper (they charged me twice for essentially the same job, not factoring in that most of the labour is done when replacing the brakes so there’s less labour in replacing the caliper), eliminates the “lifetime warranty” benefit on the brake parts (yes I understand I pay the labour for warranty on the brakes). The service representative was also unwilling to provide an estimated time of when my vehicle would be ready, only saying that ”I’ll call you when it’s ready”.

I needed my car fixed, so I proceeded with having them fix it, but I won’t be returning to this location for future repairs on my vehicle. I will take the service representative's advice and will be taking my business elsewhere next time, possibly to Fountain Tire or to an independent mechanic. I raised some of my concerns with the manager when picking up my vehicle and he was unresponsive and just gave me the standard corporate response, ensuring to maximize his profit. This location’s business model is obviously to suck as much money out of you as possible during the one transaction, and don’t seem to care about return business. I have an older model vehicle that will likely need more work done in the near future, but I won’t be taking it here again. I left here feeling like I was ripped off. Sure they got a couple hundred bucks in profit out of me this time, but lost more in future business from me. I’ll take this as the cost of a lesson learned.
